When fellow developers see me using Vim (or, more specifically, Neovim), the most common question I get is, "Why?"

Why use this antiquated text editor, a notorious pain to learn and use, when you could opt for much more sensible IDEs? They come with great default features out of the box, are easy to learn, and are tried and tested by countless developers, think VSCode, JetBrains products, or lately, Cursor.

Since joining an AI company recently, I've had the opportunity to reflect on my use of AI when programming.

When ChatGPT emerged in late 2022, as a junior Computer Science student in college, I was mind-blown by its capabilities. For that semester, I fully embraced the AI hype train, believing anyone not using this tool was falling behind and destined to become a relic of the pre-GPT world. This enthusiasm lasted until the end of the semester when my grades hit their lowest point, I learned very little, and my projects were full of bugs I had no idea how to fix.

I've recently shot a video going over my computer science education at NYU.

Today marks the end of my second attendance to GDC. This year's conference was smaller compared to the last year's. I could clearly see the impacts of the current economic downturn. The best thing one can do is to not worry about this, keep working on their craft, and be the one who's still standing when things get better.

On the other hand, personally, I felt much better compared to my experience last year. This is because I have gotten much better over the course of the year. Last year, I remember feeling super inadequate, and had this feeling where I wasn't sure if I could become a skilled game developer. And those feelings had some merit. At that point, the only thing I had done was super simple projects in Unreal and one kinda interesting small project in Unity.
